Kanta, handa, awit…

With the new technology and the ease of communications brought by the internet, ang dali nang makapaghanap at makapagdowload ng music na iyong gusto.

My car FM radio is set sa 6 english stations, 91.4 Studio 1 Dharan, 96.5 Radio Bahrain, 101.0 BBC World, 101.4 Studio 2 Dharan, 101.9 MBC FM, and 107.9 AFN. BBC World at AFN ay mostly commentaries, features at news and the rest ay music. Easy Listening, old songs and classical ang 101.4 while the rest ay rock and new songs.

One day, while travelling to Jubail for a meeting sa isa naming Division, I was treated to a trip sa 70’s and this really brought back lots of memories.

Naalala ko ng marinig ko ang “Hurting Inside” by DC5 ang pagtugtog namin ng mga classmates ko nung HIgh School, with Lito as our drummer, Andy as the Lead guitarist, Nonoy as the Lead singer. “I will always think about you” ng Colony Six reminded me of the mga tuksuhan sa klase, pinagpaparepareha kaming lahat, sa pangunguna ng aming teacher. “You’re so vain” ni Carly Simon brought back the memory of one of my friend na nuknukan ng yabang, pero mabait siya ha at talagang magaling makisama.

“It’s only love” ni AMB Junior, a song which I play in the guitar and sing during my days sa pari sa amin. I consider those days as the greatest moments in my life, those moments na ako ay nachallenge at naglubid ng mga pangarap. Then and “If” by Bread… my lifetime favorite, story of my life and the song that spelled my sufferings, sacrifices and triumphs.

When I was working with RFM in the early ’80s, nagsasideline ako sa pagkanta sa isang Music Bar sa Cubao at Buendia and signature song ko ang  “If”. Pero ang most requested na pinapakanta sa akin noon ay “If I keep my heart out sight” ni James Taylor. There was this one guy who frequented the bar and lagi naman niyang request ay “Travelling Boy” ni Art Garfunkel. Then, nawala siya for one month yata, so natigil ang “Travelling Boy”. Strainful kaya sa lalamunan iyon. Ang taas sa huling part. Later, one night, me nareceive ako request for “Travelling Boy” and I was so happy, dahil kako naroon na uli ang kaibigan ko. After the song, I looked for him, nakita ko ay ang GF niya. After ng toka ko, I approached her, she cried and told me, wala na ang kaibigan ko.

Sabi nga ni Friedrich Niestzche “without music, life would be a mistake.”

“If a man could be two places at one time, I’d be with you. Tomorrow and today, beside you all the way.If the world should stop revolving, spinning slowly down to die. I’d spend the end with you, and when the world was through.” (Bread)
