Ang kaisaisang tao na nakaligtas sa lumubog na barko ay napadpad sa isang maliit at uninhabited na isla. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, at araw araw siyang tumata…naw sa dagat pero mukhang walang makapagliligtas sa kanya.
Kahit pagod, ay nakagawa siya ng maliit na habong out of driftwood to protect him from the elements and to store his few possessions. But then one day, isang araw, pagkatapos maghanap ng makakain, nakita niyang nasusunog ang kanyang maliit na habong, the smoke rolling up to the sky.
The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger. “God, bakit mo ginawa ito sa akin? Ano ba ang kasalanan ko at ako ay pinarurusahan mo ng ganito.
Nagtipon siya ng ilang kahoy at dahon na pansamantalang matutulugan. Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him.
“Paano ninyo nalaman na narito ako?” asked the weary man of his rescuers.
“We saw your smoke signal,” they replied. Dahil sa nasunog na habong at possessions siya ay naililgtas.
Kadalasan napakadali nating mawalan ng pagasa when things are going badly. But we shouldn’t lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground–it just may be a smoke signal that summons The Grace of God.
“So when I’m thinking it’s a bad day. Feels like nothing’s going my way. Pass a wreck on the freeway. And pray that they survive. There but for the grace of God.” – Clay Aiken
