My youngest son, in one of our intimate moments, told me he wants to be a Doctor someday.
“That is a noble ambition my son,” I told him.
Then, I asked him why did he wish to be a Doctor.
“So that I can take care of you and mama when you grow old,” was his reply.
“Really???” I was caught flabbergasted by such a display of care for me and my wife.
I followed it up with a question, “and what will your specialization be, dear boy?”
He quickly replied, “Pediatrics. “
Such ambition of anyone of us is brought by our desire:
- To be above everybody
- To help others
- To meet areas where we are strong
Jesus died on the cross to save our sins. He is driven by His desire to show that God is above all, help us sinners, and to meet the area where God is strong, forgiveness.
I realize that my son is also driven by these desires: to show that he is worthy of being our child, to help others, and to meet the area where he is strong – in science and biology.
Oh, he further added that he wants to be a pediatrician to take care of me and my wife when we are old, because by then, we will be ulyanin already – experiencing second childhood. (Philippians 3:14 “so I run to straight toward the goal in order to win the prize, which is God’s call through Christ Jesus to the life above”)
“There are miracles in life I must achieve. But first I know it starts inside of me, oh. If I can see it, then I can be it. If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it. I believe I can fly. I believe I can touch the sky.” – R. Kelly
