Di ako kaagad maka-get over sa movie na “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMMZJl2dlrM). At first I was hesitant to watch this movie because of the “Salmon Fishing” in the title. I was thinking it was a sort of tutorial in fishing and I want some story that can bring motivation. I enjoyed watching and attentively listened to the dialogues. It gives us more understanding about Faith. Most notable quote in the movie:
“I intended to create a small miracle. Something to glorify God and bring our tribes together. Sometimes I wonder if we haven’t created something that glorifies man. It is a very fine line.” – Sheik Muhammad
Madalas nating sinasabi na ang anumang bagay na ating ginagawa o nakakamit ay for God’s purposes or to glorify Him, pero to quote from the movie, hindi natin matawid ang “very fine line” dahil tinatalo tayo ng pagglorify (pag-angat) sa ating sarili. Kapag nakatanggap ng increase o bonus, “God be the glory” kaagad tayo, pero ipapamalita agad, magboblow out. Bakit di natin kaya maibigay kahit part ng increase sa kawanggawa, instead of ipagblow out natin. That glorifies God more. Or kapag nakaligtas sa isang kapahamakan o nanalo sa isang paligsahan (lalo na kung pera ang premyo), “Praise God” kaagad tayo, pero after praising God, nasaan tayo and again blow out or magpakain, in the guise of sharing the blessings. All with a purpose of announcing what we have achieved, what we have surpassed, what we have survived. Meron pa nga riyan, “praise God, number 1 ako or ang anak ko” (I hate to use the popular Top 1 or Top 3 or Top 5, because it is grammatically wrong, and what one implies is pinakamataas, pangatlo, panglima, pag Top 3, ibig sabihin 3 silang nangunguna, so with Top 5), pero ang itinataas ay ang sarili o ang anak.
We achieved something, we survived, we passed, because of our Faith, Faith in God. We would rather buy something or treat friends with that 1,000 pesos and how happy we are hearing papuri SA ATING NAKAMIT.
The fine line here is HUMILITY.
Luke 18:14 “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
“For Thy steadfast love is great, Is great to the heavens, And Thy faithfulness, Thy faithfulness to the clouds.
Be exalted, O God, above the Heavens. Let Thy glory be over all the earth.” – Christian Worship Song
