OUR NATIONAL PRIDE

Lea Salonga made us proud. Manny Pacquiao made us proud. Charice made us proud. Maegan Young made us proud. Recently, Gilas made us proud.

What is the common denominator on this people who supposedly made us proud?

Entertainment.

Then it was followed by, “they are role models for the youth”. They give hope to the mahihirap, na kaya palang umahon sa hirap. What hope?

I remember in the ‘80s when the salary of PBA players went high, every kid in school and on the streets want to become a basketball player. In like manner, every child want to be a movie star or a singer. Proof of which you can see on the long lines of hopefuls in Starstruck, PBB (aw sucks, the worst.. so immoral), Pinoy Idol, etc. Now there are Boxing Academy, Bastketball Clinics, Voice Academy, Acting Academy.. where are the Technical Academies, the Research Academies?

What has this become of our youth? It has injected in them an attitude of short-cutting  to riches, and worse the attitude of getting famous by outdoing others at all costs, insultuhan, bangayan, sigawan, siraan, etc. It is “IN” to be nagmumura, nangiinsulto, nangaaway, nagbibisyo. It is “OUT” to be studious, to be respectful, to be pasensiyoso, to be soft voiced.

Are they really models?  Shall we like our children to study or be entertainers?

Bakit ang Singapore has a clean government, world-class infrastructure, high economy and disciplined people? Bakit ang America ay may mga innovations from high-tech products like Apple gadgets, apps like Facebook, topnotch health care and other high quality products?

PINOY PRIDEUntitled

We value crumbs , and leave the bread (including palaman at kape) to the politicians, entertainers, religious leaders and high profile criminals.

We depend on the wrong notion that God will help us at iasa sa Kanya ang lahat, without doing anything.

Entertainment…. That sums up our national pride.

“Come senators, congressmen. Please heed the call. Don’t stand in the doorway. Don’t block up the hall. For he that gets hurt. Will be he who has stalled. There’s a battle outside. And it is ragin’.. It’ll soon shake your windows. And rattle your walls. For the times they are a-changin’.” – Bob Dylan

ONLY GOD IS WITHOUT WEAKNESS

The way he talks and discuss technical details about their product.

I can relate how busy he is and how tight his schedules are. And I can feel his energy.

But wait, he suddently stopped the discussions and whispered to me.

Do you have a candy? Can I have some?

Surprised ako. In the middle of discussions bigla humingi ng candy.

A minute after placing the candy in his mouth, he whispered to me “my sugar is getting down, that’s why I asked for candy..”

Everyone has their weak spot. The one thing that despite our best efforts, will always bring us to our knees, regardless of how strong we are otherwise.

We should not be blinded by our strength, power or wealth.

Only God is without weakness.

“In my perdiction. The end has been forseen. I am unable to accept this failure. As weak as I am. I have no strength in me to pretend. The throne that once. Marked my strength. Is now a token of my failure.” – Black Sun Aeon
